Alberto Rosado, 30, of Bridgeport, was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 18, by Fairfield Police following the alleged burglary on South Benson Road, said Fairfield Police Capt. Robert Kalamaras.
The incident began around 2:56 a.m. Saturday when Rosado allegedly entered an unlocked vehicle parked on South Benson Road Fairfield, CT, stole a pair of sunglasses from the vehicle, and then used the remote garage door opener to open the garage and enter the home, said Kalamaras.
Once inside, Rosado allegedly stole more $6,000 worth of items from inside the home. The homeowners woke up during the burglary and relayed a description of the suspect to police, the captain said.
Fairfield Police then spotted a man matching Rosado's description driving a 2019 blue Honda Fit on Old Post Road around 3:36 a.m., police said.
Police learned the Honda Fit was a stolen vehicle out of Bridgeport and attempted to stop the vehicle, who engaged police in a pursuit, Kalamaras said.
The operator did not stop the vehicle, so police ended the pursuit, he added.
Later in the morning, detectives gathered further evidence related to the suspect’s whereabouts, conducted surveillance, and were able to positively identify Rosado.
Police followed Rosado, who drove to a Citgo gas station located at 2505 North Ave., and Rosado was detained without incident, Kalamaras said.
Police learned Rosado did not have a valid driver's license and was in possession of a cell phone that belonged to the owner of the Honda Fit.
A search of Rosado's vehicle, as well as his residence, yielded several items determined to be stolen from the burglary at South Benson Road, police said.
Rosado was charged with two counts of burglary, four counts of larceny, criminal possession of a firearm, engaging police in a pursuit, driving without a license, reckless driving and numerous traffic violations.
He is being held on a $150,000 bond.
Rosado remains in custody at Fairfield Police Headquarters.
He is also a suspect in a similar burglary that occurred on Riverside Drive on Friday, Jan. 17, police said.
